Peninsula Shores District School handed out their athletic awards during the year-end assembly last Thursday.
Male Sportsmanship Award – Travis Clarke
o Wherever Travis plays, positivity follows. Along with being a great athlete, Travis is a vocal supporter of his teammates before, during and after games.
Female Sportsmanship Award – Shantel Rigby
o Shantel is known for her positive attitude, respect for others, and unwavering commitment to fair play. She was always willing to lend a hand with setting up and cleaning up after various sporting activities.
Jr. Male Athlete of the Year – Nathan Miller and Drew Summers
o Nathan played on the basketball, volleyball, curling, badminton, track and field, and mountain biking teams where he earned a berth at CWOSSA in curling as well as badminton after finishing 2nd in the BAA mixed doubles division.
o Drew played on the tennis, basketball, volleyball, curling, badminton, and mountain biking teams where he earned a berth at CWOSSA in tennis, curling, and badminton after finishing 2nd in the BAA boy’s singles division.
Jr. Female Athlete of the Year – Bree Wilkins
o Bree played on five school teams this year, earning a berth at CWOSSA three times. Bree qualified for CWOSSA in tennis, track and field, and badminton, and was the BAA champion in Jr. girls’ badminton.
Sr. Male Athlete of the Year – Travis Clarke
o Travis participated on four school teams this year including volleyball, basketball, badminton and track and field. He was the captain of both the basketball and volleyball teams.
Sr. Female Athlete of the Year – Anna Genner
o This athlete could have easily won the sportsmanship award as well. She is always a positive teammate along with being a good athlete. She qualified for OFSAA in Nordic skiing this year.
Each year, the coaches nominate the person they feel best represents their team. Each coach sets their own criteria for the award and the winner may be the individual who is the leading scorer, the most dedicated athlete, the unsung hero, the most sportsmanlike player, or any other individual. Whatever the criteria, this athlete demonstrates what sports at PSDS is all about. Coach’s Award winner for their team:
