
The OPP have arrested and charged a Meaford man in relation to an investigation into counterfeit money.
Grey Bruce OPP officers were conducting bicycle patrols in downtown Meaford this past Saturday afternoon, when a male “known to police” was spotted riding a bicycle along Nelson Street West.
Police say when officers tried to engage with the man, he fled on his bicycle.
“The accused continued to flee on foot. He was eventually located in a wooded area and taken into custody,” Grey Bruce OPP say in a release. “Police seized an air pistol.”
Police say the arrest came after an investigation into “into multiple incidents involving counterfeit currency and other criminal offences.”
The 34-year-old accused faces a number of charges, including possessing counterfeit money, possession of imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose and assault a peace officer with a weapon.
He was remanded in custody for a bail hearing scheduled today (Tuesday) in Owen Sound.
