Municipalities in Grey Bruce are using some public facilities as cooling centres, with extreme heat in the forecast.
A heat warning is in place for the Grey Bruce region, with temperatures in the 30s and humidex values over 40 forecast today. Tuesday could provide a brief pause in the extreme heat, according to Environment Canada’s forecast, and then a return to sweltering conditions is expected Wednesday.
In Owen Sound, the library, Bayshore Community Centre, Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre and city hall are all open for regular hours and available public locations to keep cool.
Water refill stations are available at all those locations as well.
The Town of Hanover also put out a notice reminding people about cooling centre options, including the Hanover Civic Centre, library and the P&H Centre.
In South Bruce Peninsula, the Wiarton Arena and Sauble Beach Community Centre will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, until the end of the heat wave.
In Georgian Bluffs, the Shallow Lake Community Centre is open until 10 p.m. Monday. And township council chambers on Grey Road 18, is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
