Demolition work is underway on the Victoria Park Grandstand.
Owen Sound Agricultural Society Past President Hillary Breadner says crews have been removing the burnt section of the grandstand for about two weeks before the structure can be restored.
She says the demolition work is nearly completed and anticipates it to be completed by the end of the week.
“It’s exciting. I look forward to making more progress and hoping that moving forward, we can just keep moving in a positive direction,” says Breadner.
This comes after a fire destroyed part of the grandstand and the building under it last year.
Breadner says they plan to construct a building off to the side of the grandstand.
“We are still working towards those plans. The future of that is still up in the air,” says Breadner. “After the demolition is complete, we then have to get engineers to come back in and take a look at everything to make sure all of our footings and everything is good to go and then we won’t truly know the extent of construction until the engineers have had their say.”
While Breadner hopes to have the structure up and running by the fall fair this September, she anticipates the grandstand to be finished by the end of the fall season.
