Goderich Town Council has approved the addition of a new pedestrian crossing near Goderich Place.
Director of Community Services, Infrastructure, and Operations Sean Thomas presented a report to council that shared concerns from Goderich Place since there has been an increase in traffic use in the area.
Council passed a motion that would direct town staff work with staff at Goderich place to find a feasible way to add a visible pedestrian crossing, as well as adding a centre median to act as a refuge island for pedestrians crossing the street.
Mayor Trevor Bazinet Council brought forward an item to discuss the need for a pedestrian crossing at South Street and Elgin Avenue East near Giant Tiger.
Thomas said that as of last week, there was an offer from Earth Power, who has an existing agreement with the town, to install a pedestrian crossing for $41,000.
Council approved that staff move forward with installing the new crosswalk on the west side of the South Street and Elgin Street intersection using funding from the Contingency Reserve Fund.
