A new satirical dark comedy play is coming to the Roxy stage this week.
Director Gerrard Morrison says 7 Stories is full of quirkiness when a man is interrupted as he stands on the edge of a seven storey building.
“There are seven windows and as each window opens, another character is presented to us and to him who could care less about why he is on that ledge, they are totally self absorbed,” says Morrison.
He says the play is for a mature audience as it has an underlying theme of suicide.
“I don’t think suicide is ever funny, but it is the way that Morris Panych, the Canadian author, he fashions it to say to us, this piece is existential and that meaning, life is about choices, it’s about creating our own reality. There are a lot of quirky lines throughout the entire piece that almost each and every person in that audience should be able to relate to,” says Morrison.
He was drawn to direct 7 Stories after seeing the play years ago in Toronto.
“I was blown away by it,” says Morrison. “I just really respected the author.”
There are 13 local actors in the play with several recognizable faces including Cameron Donsberger, Sue Seguin, and Kara Gibson.
The 90-minute play will have no intermission and will hit the stage from June 12 to the 14 and the 18 to the 21 at 7:30 p.m., as well as a matinee on June 15 at 2 p.m.
More details about the play can be found on the Roxy Theatre website here.
