Owen Sound Police is hosting the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run today in support of Special Olympics Ontario.
Officers from Owen Sound, Saugeen Shores, Hanover, West Grey, and the OPP will join local Special Olympic Athletes in running or walking various routes across the region.
The event will end with a final run in Owen Sound and a barbecue at the Owen Sound District Secondary School.
Owen Sound Police Chief Craig Ambrose says the torch run is one of the most meaningful events the service takes part in each year.
“It brings together our police services, communities, and Special Olympic Athletes in a shared celebration of inclusion, perseverance, and the power of sport. We’re proud to support Special Olympics Ontario and help shine a light on the incredible accomplishments of these athletes,” says Ambrose in a release.
All the funds raised through the torch run will go to support Special Olympics Ontario programs, including travelling to events, accommodations, meals, staff support, and athlete training.
