Building activity in West Grey took a dip in the first quarter compared to last year.
Council reviewed the number of permits issued for residential, agricultural, commercial, institutional, and industrial builds during its meeting on Tuesday.
Over the first few months of 2025, the municipality issued 38 permits. This is compared to the 48 from the year before.
The majority of the permits issued during the first quarter this year came from 10 new agricultural buildings, four new homes, and two new institutional buildings.
While the number of permits was down during the first quarter compared to last year, permit revenue saw a large jump from $44,115 to $78,695.
Director of Infrastructure and Development Karl Schipprack says, “Obviously with the spring we had this year, everybody knows the amount of snow on the ground, it really delayed this construction season for the spring and that is probably in comparison to a very early spring in 2024. Spring is really difficult, it is weather dependent. The second quarter we will see a little bit better accurate numbers to see where we are actually at.”
