There’s a drop in meeting for the public on the Tara BESS energy storage facility.
It’s a proposed 400 megawatt battery energy storage system (BESS) with the capacity to store enough energy for about 640,000 houses.
The meeting is at the Tara Community Centre on Thursday. There are two drop-in opportunities: 12 to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
You can meet the project team and learn more about the design, environmental assessment, safety and other topics.
There’s no presentation, it’s a drop in format. They say feedback collected during the open house will be part of its development applications.
The company hoping to build the energy facility is Neoen, and the project is formerly known as Grey Owl Storage. It would be located at 39 Concession Road 4 in Arran-Elderslie, just off the Grey Bruce line, south of Tara.
The company has been awarded a 20 year contract by the Ontario Independent Electricity System Operator, but it still needs some approvals.
