Meaford is formalizing its full ownership of McCarroll Park.
The Committee of the Whole approved solidifying its ownership of the park during a meeting last week, after a section of the park was owned by a third party.
The park consists of three separate parcels, the municipality owns two of them, and discovered a third appears under private ownership.
Director of Operations Jessica Wiley says in a report, “From the parcel register this appears to be a technical error but should be resolved to ensure the municipality can manage the parklands appropriately.
Council approved completing a vesting order to merge the parcels of the park.
A vesting order is a court order which transfers ownership of property to a party. It is used when a formal transfer is not possible or practical, or if a court finds a party is entitled to ownership but can’t obtain a transfer through standard legal means.
“We thought that it was ours, we found out that it isn’t, and now we need to legalize it,” says Wiley.
