A new waterfront luxury hotel is coming to Meaford.
Canadian real-estate developer SkyDev announced this week it completed its sale of the one-acre land parcel on Boucher Street to Niagara-on-the-Lake-based Lais Hotel Properties Ltd., which is set to become the site of a luxury boutique hotel under its Vintage brand.
The five-storey hotel will feature 78 units.
Deputy Mayor Shirley Keaveney says she is pleased to see the project move forward.
“This has been in the works for many years,” says Keaveney. “I think as a municipality, we always felt that was an ideal location for a hotel right on the waterfront, right adjacent to harbour. It is an absolutely beautiful spot that allows them of course the opportunity to utilize David Johnston Park, which is right next door for swimming for the guests and put eventually and potentially a marina that could be attached to the hotel. That would be pretty wonderful for people being able to boat in to our new hotel.”
She adds the new hotel is going to have a massive impact on the community to attract more tourists to the area.
“We know it is going to be a huge boost for our businesses that are existing, but also for other developers. I have heard so many times from other developers, if we only had a hotel, then that would encourage them to move forward with some of their plans for growth. I think this really is the catalyst for things to really start taking off in Meaford,” says Keaveney.
The hotel will sit next to a condominium development scheduled for completion in 2027.
