An Owen Sound-based jewellery company is celebrating 130 years.
D.C. Taylor Jewellers’ fifth generation Owner David Taylor says with the assistance of other family members operating the company, which was founded in 1895, they will be holding a year-long celebration.
“We are a family business so we are very proud to be able to hit this milestone still in the same family as the original founder which is my great-great-grandfather,” says Taylor.
The company also received congratulations from Canada’s Governor General Mary Simon.
“Founded in 1895, this institution is one of Canada’s oldest jewellery stores still in the founder’s family ownership. It has flourished through an astounding five generations of artisans, building on the family’s legacy of excellence and fine craftsmanship. The longevity of D.C. Taylor Jewellers is a testament to the passion and care that have been at the heart of countless special milestones. Congratulations on this remarkable achievement! As you embrace new horizons and operations transition to the capable hands of your peers, the future of D.C. Taylor Jewellers shines as brightly as ever. I wish you many more years of success,” says Simon in a statement.
Taylor says it feels incredible to be recognized by the Governor General.
“Very happy to have got that, we have it put up in our stores right now. We feel very honoured to have been recognized,” says Taylor.
To mark 130 years, the company, which has locations in Owen Sound, Collingwood and Barrie will be holding a variety of events and giveaways, with more details coming through the company’s social media.
“We are going to be doing a really nice open house coming into October/November where we are going to be having some of our brands come up,” says Taylor. “Then lots of community involvement and things like to that, just trying to give back to the community because that is realistically the reason that we got to where we are today is because of the community that we serve.”
Taylor thanked the community for their continued support of the company.
“We want to continue to give back and hopefully the next generation can keep things going, no pressure,” says Taylor.
