A man walking across Canada raising awareness about mental health is making a stop in Owen Sound.
Michael Morrison, known by his other name as the dancing shaman, arrived in Owen Sound on Tuesday after first hitting the road a week ago from Elmira.
“There is a lot of us out here struggling and suffering and not a lot of people have an ear to listen or arms to hug and embrace them through their emotions that they are dealing with,” says Morrison.
His message to those struggling with mental health is there is always someone who will listen.
“All we need is someone to embrace us and just have an ear to listen because there is a lot of people that want to put their input on things and tell people how to live their lives, when all people really need is be listened to,” says Morrison.
Morrison adds since beginning his walk, people have pulled over to talk and share their own stories.
“We cry and we hug it out on the road side and hopefully it is bringing light to people and is bringing love and respect to everybody that is suffering out there,” says Morrison.
He plans to take his cart across the country and finish by this September in Newfoundland.
“We are going to take a walk up the Wasaga Beach after here and loop back around to the east coast. I have children in New Brunswick that I would like to go see and meet a grandchild I haven’t met yet,” says Morrison.
Anyone who wishes to support Morrison is encouraged to approach him while he is out on the walk across Canada.
