West Grey will soon have a new police chief.
The West Grey Police Service Board says it has appointed Jeremy White, who has been with the service for 25 years as the future chief of police.
A release from the board says, “With 25 years of policing experience, Chief Designate White brings a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and a strong connection to the community he serves.”
Police Board Chair Dave Fawcett tells Bayshore Broadcasting News, “Jeremy Definitely has those qualities,” adding, “He went through the ranks, he came from the bottom and worked his way up through.”
He adds, “I think he’s well respected in the community.”
White will officially assume the role on June 28th, following the retirement of current Chief Rob Martin.
The board says, “Chief Rob Martin, who has served with dedication and distinction, will retire on June 27, 2025, marking the conclusion of a notable career in policing and leadership within the West Grey Police Service. The Board extends its sincere gratitude to Chief Martin for his years of unwavering service to the West Grey community.”
According to the municipality, White’s policing career began in 2000 as an Auxiliary Officer with the Town of Durham. In 2001, he joined the West Grey Police Service as a full-time Constable. A release states, “Through hard work, dedication, and a commitment to community service, White advanced through the ranks, being promoted to Sergeant in 2016, Inspector in 2021, and Deputy Chief in 2024.”
Fawcett notes, “Jeremy is very involved in the community. He’s very sports-oriented. He’s helped coach a lot of the minor sports and his family are very involved in the community also.”
He says an official swearing-in ceremony for Chief Designate White is set for July 2nd at the municipal office.
