Work on the new Paisley Fire Hall and Public Works building has begun.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday to mark the start of construction.
It will replace the aging Station 80 and is designed to meet the needs of the community for decades to come.
The municipality says, “The firehall, that will be approximately 14,000 square feet, will include enhanced training areas, a healthy and safe work environment for fire personnel and will enable Arran-Elderslie Fire and Emergency Services to respond to emergencies, save lives, and strengthen the sense of security that our community relies on.”
The new build will also include a new Public Works Facility that will provide a larger modern space for maintenance operations for municipal roads and equipment to support the growing needs of Paisley and the surrounding area.
Fire Chief Steve Tiernan says in a statement, “The new Paisley Station 80 will provide our members with the space and resources they need to work safely, train effectively, and continue delivering the highest standard of emergency services,” adding, “We’re excited to see this long-anticipated project become a reality.”
Mayor Steve Hammell says, “This is an important and much-needed capital project for our community,” adding, “The new Fire Hall will strengthen our emergency response capabilities and support public safety for years to come. We look forward to celebrating its completion with the community.”
The fire hall is pegged at about $5 million.
