Four students from Hanover’s John Diefenbaker Senior School are enjoying a victory at this year’s Science Olympics.
The event is hosted by the Nuclear Innovation Institute.
This year was the third year for the event and also the largest yet. Eighteen teams of students from Bruce, Grey, and Huron counties gathered for competition on May 9th.
“Team B” from JDSS was initially in 9th place after five preliminary challenges, before pulling ahead to finish 1st in the final event.
“Team A” from JDSS, and “Team A” from FE Madill Secondary School in Wingham finished second and third, respectively.
The victory means that “Team B” took home the Science Olympics championship belt.
The winning team was made up of Ava Moric, Millie Montanez, Sebastian Watt, and Cole Schenk.
The Science Olympics are made up of challenges that span multiple scientific branches, including physics, biology, chemistry, math, and Earth science.
