1) Whether it’s groceries, gas or rent — the cost of living continues to be a challenge for many Canadians. How can the federal government make life more affordable?
I believe we need to help by subsidizing farmers that grow our food, build smaller houses that are much more affordable and offer more inexpensive public transportation.
2) Home ownership continues to be inaccessible for many, especially younger Canadians. What actions can the federal government take to help?
I hope we could offer more skill trade training earlier so when youth leave high school they have a strong base to start from. We will need more skilled tradespeople to build apartments and affordable houses. To build apartments that are reasonable in price and that are 3-6 storeys high so that young people can afford to pay for rent and still put some funds away to purchase a house in the future.
3) How would you approach the current trade tensions between Canada and the United States?
I would work on removing the challenges of moving products within Canada. I would also want to look at our allies around the world and begin working on new partnerships. A number of countries are also facing the same concerns and are looking for new opportunities.
4) How can we strengthen the Canadian economy?
Buy local. Buy what is available in that season. We can also invest more into small businesses. I also hope we could work with farmers to find out what they would need. Is it more local abattoirs, employees, etc.
5) What needs to change with Canada’s criminal justice system?
I like to be more proactive. I hope we could cover the cost of any mental health support people need from whatever age they are. I also hope to continue any mental health help throughout the time of incarceration and offer secondary and post secondary courses to these individuals. When these people are released, to continue with the mental health supports, help them find affordable housing or an apartment and ensure they have a job.
6) Would you prefer reducing or increasing federal government spending?
I would want to reallocate the funding from the oil and gas sector to other necessary areas that are needed like housing or agriculture or the environment.
7) What policies do you support to reduce emissions?
I support many ideas that reduce emissions. More electric public transportation, to create more natural areas to be carbon syncs, more wind and solar power, build more green homes which means they use sustainable materials, conserving water, etc.
8) The current government banned a number of firearms over its last two terms with mixed reaction from Canadians. Would you keep or expand the gun ban, or remove it?
I believe guns are wonderful tools to get meat into a freezer. Hunting to put meat into the freezer for yourself, family or community is amazing. I would hope to extend the length of the PAL training to ensure the tool is used, stored and cared for properly.
