The Dundalk fire department says it took about five hours and multiple fire departments to extinguish a large fire Tuesday at a commercial property.
They say in a release posted to social media, they were called on April 29th at 1:53 p.m. with a report of smoke spotted in the area of Highway 10.
Firefighters located a large fire at a commercial facility on Eco Parkway that was the cause of the smoke.
They worked on containing the fire but because of intense winds, they had to call in more fire departments to assist.
Firefighters from both Grey Highlands stations and a tanker from Shelburne were dispatched to the scene.
They say West Grey Fire Services also relocated one of their fire apparatus to Dundalk to cover any additional emergency calls that were received within Dundalk area while crews were battling the blaze.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring properties.
As the afternoon progressed both the Grey Highlands Fire Department and West Grey Fire Services had to leave to attend other emergency calls in other locations, so the Mulmur/Melancthon Fire Department was dispatched to the scene until the fire had been extinguished at 7 p.m.
They say, “Dundalk Fire Department would like to thank all of our mutual aid partners for their assistance both at the fire and with coverage to ensure residents still had emergency services available to them during this time.”
