The Bluewater District School Board has appointed a new trustee for Southgate/Grey Highlands.
Wayne Peeters was sworn-in at a special board meeting yesterday, and will finish out the term due to conclude next year when municipal and school board elections are scheduled.
The Southgate/Grey Highlands school board seat was declared vacant in February, after former trustee Janice Kaikkonen missed three consecutive meetings. The board opted to fill the vacancy by appointment, rather than holding a by-election.
Peeters resides in the Markdale area and has over 30 years of experience in education.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome Wayne to the Board of Trustees and look forward to the experience and insight he will bring to our important work in serving the students and families of Bluewater,” says Chair Jane Thomson. “Thank you to the many other qualified candidates who courageously stepped up to put their names forward through their applications in a competitive process. It is our sincere hope that these dedicated individuals will seriously consider running for trustee in the next municipal election in 2026.”
