Georgian Bluffs is making some speed limit reductions along a couple local roads.
Council approved altering the speed limit on Concession 24 and Zion Church Road during its meeting on April 9.
The speed limit on Concession 24 from Zion Church Road to about 1,345 meters east of Side Road 20/Gleason Lake Road and Zion Church Road from Grey Road 1 to Concession Road 21 are both being reduced from 80 kilometres an hour to 60.
This comes after municipal staff received calls and emails from residents on Zion Church Road and Concession 24 in the summer of 2024.
Manager of Engineering and Infrastructure Kevin Verkindt says, “What prompted it was a resident around mainly the surrounding businesses and cemetery with a speed complaint.”
He says staff reviewed the roads and the potential hazards they pose to drivers, including horizontal and vertical sightlines, residential driveways and pedestrians.
Verkindt adds these speed changes would better match these road’s design and traffic conditions.
The municipality will be installing 18 new speed limit signs to indicate the change.
