Georgian Bluffs is awarding a nearly $186,000 contract to replace culverts.
Council approved awarding the tender to Pearson Engineering Limited during its meeting on April 16.
This comes after the Ontario Structure Inspection Manual inspected over 40 structures across the municipality in 2024. The biannual inspection identifies any concerns regarding local bridges and culverts.
The inspection identified two structures beyond the end of their useful lives, one culvert along Big Bay, and the other in Kemble along Concession 20.
Manager of Engineering and Infrastructure Kevin Verkindt says it’s anticipated by expediting the design and permitting works, construction could be done this year.
The culvert in Kemble, however, is anticipated to have its design and permitting work completed later this year, with tendering in early 2026. Given the complexity of the Kemble culverts, however, Verkindt says it’s unlikely construction will happen until mid-2026.
The municipality put out a request for proposal earlier this year, and received five successful bids. Staff ended up recommending Pearson Engineering for the work.
The replacements fall under the $300,000 budgeted for the project.
