Huron County council received a 5-year update report on the South Huron official plan.
South Huron council adopted an amendment to the official plan last month, which is consistent with the 2024 Provincial Planning Statement.
During the review, public consultations were also held, and 225 people shared their thoughts.
Feedback received included a loss of rental stock with an increase of short-term rentals, an increase in visible homelessness, and impacts from foreign developer interest.
As part of preparing for growth-related development, the county has been looking at re-designation and de-designation of some parcels of land to help lay the groundwork for future development for some parcels of land, while still protecting the natural environment and resources.
Council approved an official plan amendment at the end of the review based on an earlier presentation given by Jay McGuffin, who is the President and a Principal Planner with Monteith Brown Planning Consultants.
