Goderich Town Council will be giving their support to Jokey as they look for helping combat tariffs.
In a letter to council, Jokey President Paul McInnis was looking for support in seeking a remission from the proposed counter tariffs that the Canadian government would be putting on the United States.
Fifty percent of Jokey’s injection-moulded plastic is shipped across the United States.
McInnis says that while the company supports Canadian sovereignty, the proposed counter tariffs would make it incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to maintain their payroll of 120 employees.
Jokey International makes plastic packaging that is used primarily for food, including ice cream, chemicals, and alcohol.
The company says that the proposed 25% counter tariffs would lead to the company needing to lay off half its workforce.
Goderich council would be giving support through writing to government representatives.
