The Roxy Young Company is bringing the classic tale of Alice in Wonderland to the stage.
Young Company Coordinator and Producer of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Jr. Lacey Mooney says the production will turn the classic animated film into an hour-long stage play and features almost 30 youth between the ages of seven and 17.
“I like to think this is truly a journey through the rabbit hole, through wonderland. You get to meet a lot of zany characters like the Red Queen and the Caterpillar and the Mad Hatter,” says Mooney. “It’s truly a lovely escape that I think everybody needs right now and it’s wonderful to support these young people working so hard.”
She says this production came about after Director Carrie Cathrae-Keeling reached out wanting to direct for the Young Company.
“We were trying to come up with an idea and it just so happened that I saw an email that said Alice In Wonderland rights just became available. I asked her if that would be of interest and she said that was her favourite movie ever, so she was very excited and said that is the one,” says Mooney.
The production will hit the stage on April 26 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., May 2 at 7:30 p.m., and May 3 at 2 p.m.
