Two local seniors active living centres will be getting provincial funding to support programming.
The money is coming through funding agreements with the Ontario Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility.
The Northern Bruce Peninsula Seniors Active Living Centre in Lion’s Head will receive $50,000, while the Active Lifestyles Centre in Owen Sound will be getting just over $45,000.
In a media release, MPP Paul Vickers says that the new expanded programs will make a tremendous difference for local seniors, as they help to connect them to activities within the community.
The Ontario government is providing agreements with up to 100 seniors active living centres throughout the province to help build community engagement and improve quality of life for local seniors.
In the province’s Fall Economic Statement of 2024, the government earmarked an increase of $17 million over three years to help support SALCs.
For 2025-26, such programs will be able to request up to $55,000 for maintenance and operating costs.
