The reconstruction of downtown Goderich is expected to begin in roughly a month.
Goderich Mayor Trevor Bazinet says plans to begin reconstructing the downtown core have been delayed about two weeks, but tenders have been requested by construction businesses.
“We’re looking at probably starting the first of second week of May,” Mayor Bazinet tells Country 104.9 News.
“We’re hoping we can get 60 per cent of it done this year, and then the remaining forty next year.”
Bazinet says the construction will be done in sections, so the entire downtown Goderich roundabout will not be closed at once.
When the project is completed, the Mayor says you will notice big changes.
“The sidewalks will be a little wider, so more accessibility for people,” Bazinet says.
“It will provide the restaurants, if they want a little extra space for those outdoor patios that have been very successful since [COVID-19].”
Bazinet says the infrastructure under Courthouse Square in Goderich is over a hundred years old, prompting the massive repair project.
