Orillia is dealing with another challenge as the city continues to grapple with the aftermath of last weekend’s ice storm.
A lightning strike and fire damaged equipment Wednesday night at the wastewater treatment plant, as flow rates increased due to heavy rain. The result is that sewage that has not been fully treated is flowing into Lake Simcoe.
The city says the municipal drinking water system is not impacted.

There’s similar situation in the village of Coldwater.
That community’s waste water plant has been overwhelmed by significant rainfall and resulting flooding .
It too is sending partially treated water water into the Coldwater River.
Severn Township says the community’s drinking water is not affected.
