It’s time to give your input on the planned new town hall in Wiarton.
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula is renovating the old Sobeys’ Foodland on the waterfront into a new town hall that will also have room for community space of some kind.
The Town says in a statement, “To ensure fiscal responsibility, the structure’s existing steel frame will be repurposed, saving millions of dollars. However, this design choice limits the ability to add height, including a second story. The ceiling height will be 15.7 feet. They note, the height may impact certain recreational uses, but we encourage all ideas.”
They say roughly 10,000 square feet is available to be used by the community, an organization, or maybe something like the library. On its survey page, the Town explains the project’s background and the process for deciding on what to use the space for.
The Town says survey results will be reviewed and summarized by staff and presented to council at an upcoming meeting.
The survey can be found here: https://openmicsouthbrucepeninsula.ca/new-town-hall
It asks how familiar you are with the project, and what you think of some suggested uses for the space including recreational space for things like yoga or pickleball, a campground or tourism office, a fire hall, library, government services like service Ontario, non-commercial leased space for something like a dance studio, daycare, health related offices, other uses, or you can add your own idea. You’ll be asked to rank ideas from the Town according to your preference.
The survey will remain open until March 23rd at 9 p.m. There’s no paper version, but the Town notes, for those without computers at home, it can be accessed through a library computer.
