Malcolm Spence had two goals and two assists to help lead the Erie Otters to a 7-3 win over the Owen Sound Attack in Ontario Hockey League action Saturday evening at Erie Insurance Arena.
Sam Alfano, Tyler Challenger, Gabriel Frasca, Wesley Royston and Pano Fimis also scored for Erie (31-24-4-2), which swept the two-game miniseries against the Attack.
Landen Hookey, Harry Nansi and Alec Leonard scored for Owen Sound (22-33-4-3).
Erie never trailed in the game, and scored a pair of shorthanded goals.
It was 2-0 Erie after one. The Attack put a push on late in the second period, with two goals in the final minute to suddenly cut Erie’s 4-1 lead to 4-3 heading into the third.
But the Otters pulled away with three in the third period.
Charlie Burns made 35 saves in the win, while Carter George stopped 27 taking the loss. The Attack outshot the Otters 38-34 while going 0 for 6 on the power play; Erie finished 1 for 6.
The Attack fell to ninth in the OHL’s Western Conference, one point back of the Soo Greyhounds (24-34-2-2) for the final playoff spot. Soo picked up a single point Saturday in a 4-3 shootout loss to Oshawa.
Owen Sound also remained three points back of seventh-place Sarnia (21-28-5-7), which lost 6-2 to the Flint Firebirds (28-29-2-3).
Six games to go for the Attack: three at home, three on the road.
Next up for Owen Sound is a home game Wednesday, March 12 at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre against the Firebirds.
