Bruce County council received an update on its Housing Action Plan.
During this morning’s meeting, Commissioner of Community Development Claire Dodds was able to share some of the progress made.
Dodds shared the success that the Housing Cross-Functional team has had with launching its Housing Concierge Service, which is available to developers and non-profit organizations that are looking to build affordable housing.
“The county has also been working with municipalities through 2024 and certainly the last half of 2024, to advance updates to planning documents including official plans and zoning bylaws, to ensure that we are putting in place frameworks with our municipal partners to build more housing units without triggering planning applications, and also approving as-of-right approvals for additional residential units,” explained Dodds.
The Housing Cross-Functional team helps developers with pre-development reviews, assistance with navigating approvals for organizations, and helping find funding from provincial and federal programs that would help with proposed projects.
Dodds says that the county has put a number of different tools for potential developers on the Build In Bruce webpage, which she says “Makes a really handy spot for those who want to build housing, and especially affordable housing to go to.”
