The Saugeen Shores Fire Department saw a 35 per cent increase in calls last year.
Fire Chief Ed Melanson’s annual report was presented to council Monday. It says there were 305 calls in 2024, compared to 225 in 2023.
The calculated average over the past five years is about 248 calls.
Melanson’s report says call types included 58 alarm activations, 30 carbon monoxide calls, 94 medical calls, 32 vehicle collisions, 14 water rescue responses and seven structure fires resulting in a total loss of $981,700.
There were 22 no loss indoor fires and eight no loss outdoor fires, three calls for help with an elevator and three calls about power line issues.
Also of note in 2024, the department approved its Fire Service Master Plan, PTSD Policy, Funeral Policy, Uniform Policy and Continuous Improvement Operational Guideline.
