New Democrats have announced their candidate in Huron-Bruce in the Ontario election.
Nick McGregor is a lifelong Huron County resident, educator, and community advocate.
“For too long, people in Huron-Bruce have been left behind by governments that don’t listen,” says McGregor in a statement, adding “After seven years of Doug Ford and nearly 14 years of Lisa Thompson, life has only gotten harder for families in our communities. It is time for real change.”
He says he understands the challenges rural communities face because he has lived them.
McGregor is a high school teacher in Goderich and a member of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) District 8. He is a director with Huron County Pride and helped organize the region’s first ever Pride festival. He holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay.
A release from the party association says he has spent his career standing up for students, educators, and families.
“The Ontario NDP has a plan to fix what is broken,” says McGregor, adding, “We will invest in our hospitals, hire the doctors and nurses our communities desperately need, and ensure emergency rooms stay open. We will stand up for farmers, address the challenges of protecting farmland and agribusiness, and ensure rural Ontario thrives.”
He joins Green Party Candidate Matthew Van Ankum, incumbent PC MPP Lisa Thompson and Liberal Ian Burbidge in the contest for the seat.
