Kincardine council is getting closer to finalizing its 2025 municipal budget.
After a second special budget meeting, council had decided to add a contribution toward the hospital foundation from the contingency reserve. Previously, the municipality had committed to contributing $600,000 per year for four years ($2.4 million). The 2025 contribution will come from the reserve fund.
They also decided to continue with planning for a proposed affordable housing project at 705 Princes Street. In November 2024, council had chosen to begin the process of rezoning the parcel of land for affordable housing based off a report that council had received from Flourish.
The proposed tax rate increase for the municipality is sitting at 8.32%, which is above where members of council had set a goal to hit.
Council will finalize the capital and operating budget for 2025 as part of a regular council meeting in February.
