Owen Sound council could be making a slight change to the composition of the River District Board of Management.
A motion from Coun. Travis Dodd passed during Monday’s council meeting to have staff prepare a report outlining the process of amending the River District Board of Management’s constitution to reduce the number of city councillors appointed to the downtown group’s board.
The report would come back to council at its Oct. 21 meeting. The idea is to reduce the number of city councillors on the River District Board from two, to one.
“We know the downtown is going through some changes and we’re seeing a lot of businesses that would like to be more a part of the discussion of what’s happening in the downtown,” Dodd explains. “Does the city still need to have two members on that board? Or can we reduce it (by one city councillor) and open up that space again for someone from the downtown community?”
The River District is the name given to Owen Sound’s downtown core and the board of management works to develop programs and policies to benefit businesses and merchants in that area.
