A grant is fully covering the costs of a proposed redesign of Riverside Park in Durham.
West Grey council reviewed the recently received grant funding during a meeting on Sept. 3, which will completely fund of the redesign of the park to include a pavilion/stage structure, park amenities, seasonal portable bathrooms, and expanded electrical availability for events.
This project is in partnership with the municipality and the Durham BIA, as well as the Durham and District Horticultural Society, and Music In The Park.
The goal of the project is to create an enhanced event and community gathering space near the downtown core.
Mayor Kevin Eccles says, “certainly help out on the Farmers’ Market and a lot of other activities that go there that have been kind of makeshift, this will be a better use of the space.”
Corporate and Community Initiatives Officer Kodey Hewlett says the redesign is on a fairly aggressive timeline.
“It must be completed by year end and right now working on timelines with our local builders, we should be able to meet that,” says Hewlett.
