As of September 1st, a by-law to regulate native trees on private property comes into effect in the Municipality of Kincardine.
The by-law requires homeowners and developers to get a permit before removing one or more native trees from private property, before development takes place.
This type of by-law is also found in other municipalities across Ontario.
Exemptions for the new rules include not needing a permit if the tree is already dead or injured, if it’s an immediate hazard to people or property, or if it’s only being pruned as part of regular maintenance.
Details are available at kincardine.ca/nativetrees.
