The hospital organization that runs sites in Durham, Chesley, Walkerton and Kincardine is holding a couple of community engagement sessions this month.
South Bruce Grey Health Centre says the sessions are open to residents of those four communities.
They say in a release, “As South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) continues to plan for the future to support high-quality care for the communities we serve, your feedback is important to us, and we want to hear from you directly.”
They have posted a few questions they want people to think about, including what their most common reasons for visiting a hospital site are, for example x-ray, lab services, critical emergencies, non-urgent emergency visits, surgical services etc.
They also want to know what health care services people are traveling outside of the region for that could potentially be provided closer to home.
They add, “Recognizing that we are not able to provide 24/7 emergency services at the Chesley and Durham sites due to limited staffing resources, what hours are most important for you for access to care?”
The South Bruce Grey Health Centre recently moved the ten inpatient beds out of the Durham hospital and into Walkerton and Kincardine, and reduced its hours to 7a.m.. to 5 p.m. daily, citing a lack of available staff as the reason for the changes. The Chesley hospital’s emergency department has been closed overnight since 2019.
Upcoming Community Engagement Sessions:
Monday, August 26 at 6:00PM – Durham Community Centre
Tuesday, August 27 at 6:00PM – Chesley Community Centre
South Bruce Grey Health Centre also has an online survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2PLNTSG
They say printed versions of the survey will be available at both community engagement sessions.
