The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) says you may see some increased military traffic over the next week.
Military vehicles will be heading down major highways on August 18th and again on the 27th as hundreds of infantry and support personnel will be coming to the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre in Meaford.
They’ll be gathering for Exercise STALWART GUARDIAN from the 17th to the 28th.
They’ll be conducting simulated combat operations led by 33 Canadian Brigade Group which is headquartered in Ottawa and will also include soldiers from 32 Canadian Brigade Group headquartered in Toronto.
They’ll be coming into Meaford from the Greater Toronto Area, Peterborough, Brockville, Kingston, Belleville, Sudbury, North Bay, Cornwall and Ottawa.
The military says they will conduct planned, short stops and longer halts throughout the duration of the road moves, stopping for rest, fuel, scheduled maintenance and other training.
They’ll be traveling with unloaded weapons and will not be carrying ammunition.
The CAF says in a release, “This important training supports year-round preparations for international operations and maintains 4 Cdn Div readiness to support our partners and allies overseas with trained and professional soldiers.”
Canadian Army exercises also help maintain readiness to respond to emergencies in Canadian communities, including natural disasters like flooding and wildfires, as our members always prepare to deploy in response to Requests for Assistance and to serve alongside community members and other first responders.
