Georgian Bluffs is going to be getting new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at different locations across the township.
The new stations are slated to be installed at community centres and other public spaces.
The first EV charging stations to be installed will be high-speed, Level 3 chargers, which have a charging capacity of 100 kW.
The Level 3 chargers can support up to 80% of a charge in 30-40 minutes for many electric vehicles.
Installing the charging stations was a priority set out by council and staff for 2024, in an effort to allow the community to make greener environmental choices and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Construction has started installation at Sarawak Family Park and is expected to be ready by the end of August. A canopy with solar panels will be installed later this year.
Georgian Bluffs says that aside from Sarawak, they’re going to install EV stations at Shallow Lake Arena and Township Administrative Offices, with further locations in mind.
The township says that in the future, there may be even faster charging stations installed, which would be able to handle 350kW.
