The annual Shore to Shore Race in Wiarton raised an estimated over $10,000 for the local Rotary Club.
Wiarton Rotary President and Race Director Nora Walden says while the race experienced a slight delay as a result of the weather on Monday, it was a successful event.
“I think everybody was actually very thankful as they were allowed to sit on our buses in dryness and comfort rather than be outside and risk getting completely soaked and certainly not being under the threat of lightening,” says Walden.
She says the event was at capacity with 180 people planning on tackling the 13 kilometre route from Oliphant to Wiarton.
Tristan Bouius finished first overall and for the men, while Rachel Hannah finished first among the women.

“Overall, the race was just a huge success. After the rain and the storm let up, the sky just gradually got brighter and brighter and the runners had a great time as did the walkers,” says Walden.
She says this long standing race also operates as a fundraiser for the Wiarton Rotary.
While the final amount has not been calculated as of yet, Walden says the estimated over $10,000 raised will go to support the club’s various local and abroad initiatives.
“For the Rotary Club, we consider our community in very broad strokes, so that is our local people who we want to support, but also our international community,” says Walden.
