Saugeen Shores Police are warning about the dangers of replica weapons, after responding to a report of two individuals with a firearm over the weekend.
Officers were called to an area near Port Elgin main beach around 4:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon because of the apparent firearm. But it turns out it there was nothing to worry about, it was just a water gun.
Still, Saugeen Shores Police are using the incident to stress replica weapons can be difficult to differentiate from real firearms.
“Officers will treat a weapons call as if there is a lethal weapon that poses a risk to public safety,” Saugeen Shores Police say on social media. “Please be responsible when using imitation or airsoft weapons.”
