The Tom Thomson Art Gallery is hosting an internationally recognized artist this weekend for a workshop event.
Michael Belmore will be at the TOM on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. with his solo exhibition Gawaatebiishin for an artist talk where he will shine a light on his work and process, which touches on the environment, land, water, and being Anishinaabe.
Then on Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Belmore will be back for an introductory workshop on using copper tooling, and manipulating copper sheets to create intricate designs and patters inspired by nature.
He will provide a step-by-step guide on how to use these techniques for participants to create their own copper ripple artwork.
TOM Curator of Public Projects and Education Heather McLeese says, “we are honoured to host Michael Belmore at the TOM. He is an extraordinary artist and teacher, and we are thrilled to present these events that highlight his exhibition and connect to his practice through a hands-on copper tooling worship for the public. These are two events not to be missed, so mark your calendars and sign up today.”
More details on the limited ticketed event can be requested by calling the gallery at 519-376-1932 or emailing McLeese at hmcleese@tomthomson.org.
