The Township of Southgate has approved an action plan to help boost economic development.
The 2024 Business Retention and Expansion (BR+E) Project Report and Actions council approved during a meeting on July 3 examines how to best retain businesses, while strengthening the local economy and encouraging business expansion.
The township says the report found business owners and operators were eager to see joint marketing initiatives to attract new customers, streamlined municipal service offerings, and more networking opportunities for entrepreneurs in the area.
The report also includes an outline on how to implement the recommendations, as well as an action plan on how Southgate aims to meet what businesses would like to see in the community.
Mayor Brian Milne says, “our BR+E provided a great learning experience for our township, as well as the many community partners who support our local businesses.”
The township will be working with its community partners to start implementing the action plans included in the report in the next year, with reports on progress being made over the next 24 months.
“After June 2026, the priorities and actions will be reassessed and re-established in consultation with the business community,” says the township.
