No one was injured in a commercial building fire in downtown Kincardine over the weekend.
Both Kincardine and Tiverton stations responded to the fire at 330 Durham Market Square South at 6:40 a.m. on Saturday.
Kincardine Fire says when firefighters arrived on the scene, there was heavy smoke, which required evacuating neighbouring homes and Victoria Park, resulting in the Kincardine Scottish Festival and Highland Games event being postponed.
The Ripley and Port Elgin stations also attended the fire, resulting in 34 firefighters battling the blaze.
“The fire was challenging due to the construction of the building and origin of the fire, but by 12:30 p.m. crews had the situation under control and the Kincardine Scottish Festival and Highland Games events in Victoria Park could resume,” says Kincardine Fire.
Crews later left the scene around 3:45 p.m.
As investigations into the fire continue this week, crews are not considering the blaze to be suspicious.
The damage estimate is $2.5 million.
