Peninsula Shores District School handed out their athletic awards during the year-end assembly on Thursday.
Male Sportsmanship Award – Travis Clarke
o Wherever Travis plays, positivity follows. Along with being a great athlete, Travis is a vocal supporter of his teammates before, during and after games.
Female Sportsmanship Award – Anna Genner
o Anna brings a high-level enthusiasm to all her endeavors. She is a great cheerleader for not only her teammates, but her fellow competitors as well – where she encourages them to do their best along the side of the trails at Nordic skiing.
Jr. Male Athlete of the Year – Wyatt Thomas
o Wyatt played on the golf, volleyball and badminton teams where he earned a berth at CWOSSA after winning the BAA junior boys badminton title.
Jr. Female Athlete of the Year – Bree Wilkins
o Bree played on seven school teams this year, earning a berth at CWOSSA four times and OFSAA once. Bree was the BAA champion in Jr. girls badminton, and the BAA and CWOSSA champion in junior girls Nordic skiing.
Sr. Male Athlete of the Year – Nathan Thomas
o Nathan participated on three school teams this year including volleyball, curling and Nordic skiing where he qualified for OFSAA.
Sr. Female Athlete of the Year – Lacey Urbshott
o This athlete could have easily won the sportsmanship award as well. She is always a positive teammate along with being a great athlete.
Gordon McNally Memorial Award – Mrs. Kelly Wilkins
o The Gordon McNally Memorial award is presented to one person in each CWOSSA district who has shown a long-term commitment to high school sports. The winner should exemplify the same dedication, sprit and love of sports which made Gordon McNally such an important leader in the early years of CWOSSA. For only the third time in school history, the BAA winner is from PSDS.
Each year, the coaches nominate the person they feel best represents their team. Each coach sets their own criteria for the award and the winner may be the individual who is the leading scorer, the most dedicated athlete, the unsung hero, the most sportsmanlike player, or any other individual. Whatever the criteria, this athlete demonstrates what sports at PSDS is all about. Coach’s Award winner for their team:
