The Owen Sound Fire Department put out a blaze at a multi-unit apartment building in the city yesterday.
A release from the city says fire and emergency services responded to the Rockview apartment building at 7th Avenue East at 4:32 p.m.
The fire started in the kitchen area and spread to the rest of the unit causing significant damage, but fire crews were able to contain it to the one unit.
The cause has been determined to be a result of unattended cooking and there is no damage estimate at this time.
All the units were evacuated and Grey County Housing staff were one the scene as well providing assistance to the displaced residents. Those affected by the blaze are being accommodated by Grey County housing.
Owen Sound Fire Chief Phil Eagleson says, “never leave cooking on the stovetop or in the oven unattended. Keep cooking areas clean and clear of combustibles, and if you have to leave, make sure all appliances are turned off.”
