Kincardine council has approved a speed limit reduction for part of Kincardine Avenue.
The 800-metre stretch of road east of Highway 21 has been reduced from 80 km/h to 60 km/h.
Through discussion with the Ministry of Transportation during design changes and intersection improvements, it was deemed prudent to reduce the speed of the road.
The speed reduction better matches the portion of Kincardine Avenue west of Highway 21, which has a posted speed limit of 50 km/h.
During consultations with the South Bruce OPP staff, they had voiced concerns that reducing speed too drastically from 80 km/h down to 50 would cause driver frustration, and lead to issues with speeding and stunt driving.
Municipal staff says that the new 60 km/h zone would benefit the usage of the new intersection of Highway 21 and Kincardine Avenue, and provide notice to drivers that they are about to enter a more urbanized environment.
