The Ontario Association of Sewage Industry Services (OASIS) shared their concerns about hauled sewage disposal sites in the province.
The group shared their concerns during this week’s Bruce County Council meeting.
OASIS past president Rob MacLellan says that they’re striving to educate the public on the importance of septic handling and management.
“Biosolids are a product of the wastewater treatment process,” says MacLellan. “During wastewater treatment, the liquids are separated from the solids. Those solids are then treated physically and/or chemically to produce a semi-solid nutrient-rich product, known as semi-solids.”
He says that in Ontario, the lack of proper disposal of sewage and septic waste to approved municipal wastewater plants poses significant challenges and concerns.
“This issue encompasses a range of environmental, public health, and regulatory factors that need to be addressed for the wellbeing of communities across the province.”
He says that it’s important to have outdated municipal wastewater facilities upgraded in order to help solid waste handling happen more safely and efficiently.
OASIS says they actively engage with municipalities by conducting workshops, seminars, and public awareness campaigns to educate policy-makers about the importance of proper waste disposal.
