Bruce County will be looking at awarding a $320,000 contract for the restoration of the 1878 schoolhouse and log cabin at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre.
Council will consider awarding the tender to Colonial Building Restorations this week after a report in June 2023 outlined issues with the schoolhouse and the assessment work needed.
The museum previously issued a statement saying the schoolhouse was closed as a result wood cladding.
A report from Director of Museum and Cultural Services Cathy McGirr says the assessments were completed and a detailed phased work plan and project estimate was used to project the 2024 project at $250,000.
By accepting the low bid from Colonial Building Restorations, however, the county is facing a shortfall of over $106,000.
The report recommends covering the shortfall through the museum facilities reserve.
Council will consider awarding this contract during its meeting on June 6 at 9:30 a.m.
