Meaford is reviewing its Community Improvement Plan (CIP) to meet an increasing need for funding.
Council approved having staff conduct a review after Deputy Mayor Shirley Keaveney brought forward a motion during a meeting on May 27.
The motion says as council has been receiving an increased number of applications for funding through the CIP and wants to make sure it is able to benefit the wider community, staff will conduct a review and come back with proposed updates.
As part of the review, it will consider if the existing annual $50,000 CIP is enough to help those who send in applications.
“In the past, I am going to say three years, the County of Grey has contributed $20,000 to the program, which gave us $70,000 to award. Because we have had a number of applications, I want that to be considered if $50,000 is the right number,” says Keaveney.
The CIP supports owners of Meaford commercial, industrial and agricultural lands and buildings by providing various grants and loans, which can result in exterior and HVAC upgrades as well as installing accessibility ramps and washrooms.
Any proposed updates to the CIP will be presented to council before the end of this year.
